A journey of initiation following in the footsteps of the Great Bear...

“Primal theatre from the heart of Bulgarian myth and folklore... A fabulous blend of storytelling, ritual and music combined with divine Bulgarian singing”

Beyond nine forests, beyond the border between the wild and the civilised, lies a world where dream and reality merge, where babes suckle on mountain mists, dark blood is spilt upon the earth and spells are woven from the star-spun heavens.

This is a landscape of nature spirits, fierce warriors and strange magic through which the human soul journeys along the map of the heart in its search for self knowledge and the wisdom of the great bear.

Told through dark edged tales drawn from Bulgarian mythology, this is a unique theatrical experience combining storytelling, folklore, ritual, music and dance.

Drawing of a bear's head

These ancient stories never before heard in Britain are echoes of a pagan past that fire the imagination and stir the soul. They are interwoven with the expressive power of specially created music as well as Bulgarian song, dance and folk music performed on authentic Bulgarian instruments.

Combining ritual and masked dance, compulsive uneven rhythms and the evocative Bulgarian style of singing, this is an exciting journey of initiation into a hidden culture and the mystery beyond.
